~ Del Rio, Tennessee ~

Del Rio,Tennessee, 1986 - French Broad River in the foreground.
MOUNTAINS SURROUNDING and their deep forests rule the countryside. Narrow streams and roads wander through to the broad river and the highway. The people live in little clusters along the way, or in remote hollows and, lately, on isolated ridges. They've come since the American Revolution, working farms and the abundant woodlands; many generations. Family matters most, and the various churches, and the lifelong neighbors. The righteous, the sinful, all of the several shades of humankind here seem to share a sense of belonging in a special place.
MUSIC REVEALS the matters of the heart, and music has always been a big portion of the essence of being here. Gospel and traditional music, country, rock, and bluegrass are all played here, and let's not forget Grace Moore, born in Slabtown, who went on to sing the lead at the Metropolitan Opera.
SEND US YOUR SONGS, natives and newcomers, friends and acquaintances, and anyone else who can understand what it must mean to dwell in Del Rio; a song you've already written might be appropriate.
We'll bring it all together at Del Rio Days, in the glorious month of October.
